I remember a few months back in the car Heather had heard some random noise from the back of the van, thought it was a friend and discovered that it was actually Gideon touching/pressing/grasping/something one of the little toy animal things he had for the first time. I actually am not sure exactly when this was to be honest, but it does seem to be the first time I remember him interacting with the environment all that much.
Obviously as he approaches 7 months old he has been interacting with the world a lot more. He is generally a happy baby and does not actually make that much noise. He will quietly observe the world a lot, and seems to really enjoy just taking it all in on walks. He will sit in the stroller just looking at everything in sight for a good 45 minutes without making noise or moving much. He will even have a toy with him to keep from getting bored, but generally ignores it. Car trips are not quite the same. I think he cannot really see out the windows of the vehicle and generally he will take a nap after complaining for a bit.
He recently figured out the point to rolling over. We are fairly certain that he has been physically capable of rolling over for a month or perhaps even a little more, but he just would not. Every now and then you would see him half rolled over, or possibly even on a different side than he had been. Upon attempting to get him to roll over he actually seemed disinterested, as if he could see no point. Now he rolls when he deems it necessary. He does not really complain about being on his back or front, but will get upset when he wants to sit again. He has not yet figured out that crunches will not get him up.
In just the past couple weeks I have become fairly certain that he is responding to his name. He most certainly knows when you are hanging out with him versus around him. Luckily he tends to amuse himself fairly easily most of the time. He really seems to like when other kids are over, or he is over with other kids. This makes me think that he must really like daycare as well.
That is all I really have time for right now. Next time maybe an update on work is in order...
